Upsets and Drafts

1. NWSL

There is sure to be drama this week in the NWSL with both the expansion and college draft taking place.

  • The expansion draft will take place 12/16 at 7 PM ET. Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC will alternate picks. ACFC will pick first.

  • The college draft will take place on 12/18 at 2 PM ET.

U.S. allocation system ends. All USWNT players will sign a contract directly with their club instead of being paid by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

2. FA WSL (England)

League Standings (Top 6)

  • 1. Arsenal (25 pts); 2. Chelsea (21 pts); 3. Tottenham (17 pts); 4.Brighton (15 pts); 5. Manchester United (15 pts); 6. Manchester City (13)

Chelsea dropped all 3 points at Reading over the weekend. Reading was able to pull off the upset and beat the reigning champs 1-0. Deanne Rose was able to carry the ball from half field and score. The loss puts Chelsea 4 points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

Arsenal bounced back after a tough loss in the FA Cup Final and Champions League. They beat Leicester City 4-0. The league title is 100% theirs to lose now that they are 4 points clear of Chelsea.

Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-1 and are now in third place in the standings. They would currently qualify for the Champions League.

Man City are slowly working their way up the table after a rough start to the season. After their win over the weekend they are now in 6th place. They are only 2 points behind Brighton who are in fourth and 4 points behind Tottenham. Ellen White scored in the 89th minute to help City get the 3-2 win over Birmingham City.

3. Division 1 Féminine (France)

League Standings (Top 6):

  • 1. Lyon (33 pts); 2. PSG (30 pts); 3. Paris FC (22 pts); 4. Fleury 91 (21 pts); 5. Montpellier (19 pts); 6. Bordeaux (14 pts)

  • There was no movement in the table from last week to this week.

Lyon remains undefeated at 11-0. They were able to beat Paris FC 2-1. Lyon's goals came within 1 minute of each other. Cascarino scored in the 38' while Hegerberg scored in the 39'.

The league will return for the second half of the season on January 15th.

4. Frauen-Bundesliga (Germany)

League Standings (Top 6):

  • 1. Wolfsburg (26 pts); 2. Bayern (25 pts) 3. Hoffenheim (24 pts); 4. Eintracht Frankfurt (22pts); 5. Potsdam (21 pts); 6. Leverkusen (16 pts)

While there wasn't any movement in the table from last week to this week there were a lot of points dropped. The league is starting to look like it could be the most competitive league in Europe.

Wolfsburg tied Leverkusen 1-1. Although Leverkusen is 6th in the table, Wolfsburg will probably consider that as a game they should have won.

Bayern also dropped 2 points after drawing 1-1 with Potsdam. The tie helped Potsdam get within 3 points of being third in the table. Potsdam was able to go up 1-0 in the 30' thanks to a goal from Selina Cerci.

Hoffenheim also dropped points after drawing 1-1 with Sand. With both Wolfsburg and Bayern dropping points, they had the perfect chance to move into second in the table and be tied on points with Wolfsburg. With Sand being 11th in the league Hoffenheim will consider that a bad result.

5. Primera División (Spain)

League Standings (Top 6)

  • 1. Barcelona (39 pts); 2. Sociedad (28 pts); 3. Atl. Madrid (25 pts); 4. Athletic Club (23 pts); 5. Granadilla Tenerife (22 pts), 6. Alavés (21 pts)

Barcelona remains undefeated after beating Real Madrid 3-1. Lieke Martens had a brace. The other goal came from Paredes.

Athletic Club moved up a spot in the table after beating Alavés 4-1.Alavés dropped from 4th to 6th in the table with the loss.

Atl. Madrid dropped points to Sevilla which they will consider a bad result. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Granadilla Tenerife continues to move up the table. They were able to get a 2-0 win against Eibar over the weekend. That allowed them to move up one spot in the table.

6. Serie A (Italy)

League Standings (Top 6):

  • 1. Juventus (33 pts); 2. Roma (25 pts); 3. Sassuolo (25 pts); 4. Internazionale (22 pts); 5. Milan (22 pts); 6. Sampdoria (16 pts)

Juventus beat Milan 5-2 over the weekend. This allowed Juventus to go 8 points ahead of both Roma and Sassuolo at the top of the table.

Roma jumped Sassuolo in the table after beating Lazio 3-2. Glionna scored in the 73' to go up 3-2.

Internazionale tied Sassuolo 2-2 in their Game. Bonetti scored in the 90' to bring Internazionale back level. This result helped Internazionale move up a spot in the table, while it moved Sassuolo down a spot.

The league will return for the second half of the season on January 16.

Champions League

Standings:
